International

We have considerable experience in carrying out cross-border work in all practice areas.  Our international strategy is to develop relationships with other independent overseas law firms who share our high standards of legal advice and service.  It also means we are able to recommend a firm which best suits your requirements and budget.  Our better friend network extends to law firms in over 80 countries.  Our work can range from a small one off matter to a larger cross-border transaction involving multiple jurisdictions.

The way we work

This is your choice.  We can either put you in direct contact with a better friend, we can instruct a better friend on your behalf and/or we can act as a project manager on your behalf.  The benefit to you of us managing this process is that there is a seamless service from beginning to end.  For you this means:

• One point of contact
• Not having to manage the time differences
• Receiving the same standard of service and quality of advice
• We co-ordinate the billing system
• Confidentiality

Client feedback

We are not complacent about the relationships with either our clients or our better friends and we invest considerable resources in developing and maintaining that network not only through work, but also through secondments, visits, conferences and training.

We regularly monitor the service delivered to ensure that clients continue to receive the best possible service.

Paul Oschatz, Legal Director & Company Secretary (Unit 4, Agresso N.V. Sliedrecht, The Netherlands) said of the service he received:

"On cross-border transactions my preference had always been to instruct a law firm with offices in the relevant jurisdictions – because I want a seamless service for advice and billing and a single point of contact. Burges Salmon does not have overseas offices.  However, as I discovered when working with Burges Salmon on a trans-Atlantic transaction, it is able to provide that seamless service through the excellent relationships it has built with other overseas law firms and that they are used to working together.  It felt as though I was working with one firm in one office rather than two different firms in two different countries/time zones.  I would have no hesitation in dealing with any transaction in the same way again."
